Tips for Being a Good Neighbor

Many of us have had our trash spill along the curbside as a result of crows, squirrels, cats and other critters picking up the odors of the trash. The following are a few tips that may help:
  • Put your trash out on the morning of trash day
  • Use dark green trash bags
  • Use heavy duty trash bags
  • Use your garbage disposal and minimize the amount of food garbage that you throw out – these odors are attractive to the critters!
  • Use a secured trash container with lid
  • Spray vinegar or Clorox solution on the outside of the trash bag
Trash is collected on Monday and Thursday mornings by Potomac Disposal. To avoid problems with birds and animals, please do not place trash out prior to 7:00 pm on the evening prior to collection. If a collection day falls on either Christmas Day (December 25th) or New Years Day (January 1st) Potomac Disposal will pick up trash on the following day. Collection on all other holidays will not be affected.

Recycling is collected by the City of Gaithersburg on Friday mornings. To avoid problems with birds and animals, please rinse containers thoroughly and do not place recycling out prior to 7:00 pm on the evening prior to collection. For information on recycling, please go to

Bulk trash is collected by the City of Gaithersburg on the first Friday of each month. The Association’s contract with Potomac Disposal includes the collection of most bulk trash from each home, by appointment only, twice each year. To arrange for this free service, please contact Potomac Disposal directly at 301-294-9700.
